Week 87
This week we had some really long visits with our members. We've learned, old people like to talk A LOT! But it's all well and good because it helps us to know what's actually going on in the community.
MONDAY we went to every single barbershop and hair salon in town so I could get a haircut, but they were all either closed or completely booked. I knew it was a small town, but wow. After all that, we took an hour drive over a mountain and through the woods to get to this place called Lake Roberts. It was a really pretty lake, and we had a nice picnic with most of the zone.
TUESDAY was a lot of driving because we went up to Glennwood, which is 30 minutes north of the main part of our area and another 30 minutes from where we live, so we could visit some members and then had to go home and get packed so we could stay the night in Deming, which is an hour from where we live, before zone conference on Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY we got up, got dressed, and drove to Las Cruces for vehicle inspections and zone conference. Something really cool to us who had served in the Albuquerque mission before the mission split, was that the people who had always given the mission mental health devotionals, Brother Shirley, was there in-person. After the rest of zone conference, we had lunch, got some pictures, and then spent 3 hours driving back to our area.
THURSDAY was apparently our service day because we spent almost from the time we got up until the time we went to dinner in service clothes. This was also one of those days where we were glad we hadn't planned anything after dinner, because our members talked for another 2 hours after dinner ended. Dinner and another hour the sister was just telling us about their family's life and about activities in the community. After that, the brother spent an hour showing and telling us about his forge where he makes his own steel and knives.
FRIDAY we had exchanges and interviews. They both went pretty well, and I managed to get some good advice for training.
SATURDAY was pretty good because we were able to meet with a lot of less active members and share some short messages with them.
SUNDAY we had a good chunk of people at church. We had almost 50 people there, which is the most they said that they've had in a bit.
Helaman 12:24 says, "24 And may God grant, in his great fulness, that men might be brought unto repentance and good works, that they might be restored unto grace for grace, according to their works."
Hope everyone has a good general conference.
