Week 68
First full week in the new area! I've met some pretty cool members and taught some pretty cool people the gospel, so I've really enjoyed this week.
MONDAY we spent a good chunk of time hanging out at Goodwill because the zone leaders wanted to do some thrift shopping. It was a little funny being there because something like half the zone showed up without anyone saying anything to each other. I didn't need anything, so that was when I wrote most of last week's email.
TUESDAY wasn't anything really special. We just did weekly planning and tracted a bunch.
WEDNESDAY we had planned an exchange, but before we started it, we went to an all-you-can-eat taco place with a bunch of other missionaries. I asked Elder Fetuao later, and he said that he ate 26 tacos. The exchange was really fun because the elder I was with had also served in Taos, and we just spent a lot of time when we were walking or driving, just talking about Taos.
THURSDAY was a weird day because we had lunch at what was probably the latest I've ever had it on my mission. We had gone and visited some of our recent converts early in the day, and they talked our ears off for a long time. That, plus one of the lessons we had, made us take lunch at 3. Dinner that night was pretty cool because we were able to talk with this family of converts who were from Korea originally. It was really interesting talking with them about the culture over there and about the church in Korea.
FRIDAY our district council was a lot more fun than they normally are. The district leaders had all set up a different "station" in the different parts of the building and had us go from spot to spot, learning about different parts of missionary work. After lunch, the whole zone went to the chapel to practice for a Christmas musical devotional that we'd be singing in on the 15th. I really enjoyed being able to practice with everyone because I just really like singing in general.
SATURDAY we helped out at this big service project with a bunch of the local churches. The main focus was making beds for those in the community who can't afford one. I was helping with sanding the wood the whole time, so I was pretty dusty by the end of it.
SUNDAY we helped out with the mission prep class. It was pretty fun being able to help them learn how to teach about the restoration and remember when I was in the same spot.
My favorite talk from this last general conference was "Mortality Works!" A quote from it says, "Despite the challenges we all face, our loving Heavenly Father has designed the plan of happiness such that we are not destined to fail." The plan that our Heavenly Father has for us is one where, even though we make misstep after misstep, we will be able to succeed and find eternal happiness as long as we keep trying.
