Week 64

This week was really exciting because 2 of our friends were able to make their first covenant with God! We don't speak the same language, but I'm still really excited for them and for the effect this will have in their lives.
MONDAY we had a p-day down in Alpine, TX, which is about 2 hours south of us. It was a ton of driving, but we got to see some nice sights on the way down, including some of the only mountains and trees I've seen since being out in the Fort Stockton zone. We went down there to have a barbecue with all the elders and to go on a tour of the observatory with one of the members who works there. It was a really cool experience to be standing right by the telescopes and see just how big they were.
TUESDAY we somehow spent all day just preparing for the baptism on Saturday by calling people and asking them to give talks and just inviting people to come.
WEDNESDAY our Zone leaders came up from Fort Stockton to help us teach our friends we had on date for baptism the last principles they needed to know before they could be baptized. Another thing that was really fun was that at dinner, our member who was feeding us let us go and see all the animals they had at their house, so we were able to play with a bunch of pigs and lambs.
THURSDAY we had to fix the baptismal programs we made on Tuesday because one of our speakers had to cancel. We found a replacement by getting one of our zone leaders to talk in their place.
FRIDAY I went on an exchange to Fort Stockton for the day and it went really well! We spent all day just going from house to house to teach a bunch of their friends, and we even had one of them say they wanted to be baptized.
SATURDAY we had to drive back to Monahans for the baptism and made it there just as it started. It was really special because this was the first baptism that has happened in the district in over a year. We also went to the adult session of our district conference that evening and heard some really awesome talks from the members in the district.
SUNDAY we had the general session of district conference. It's fun having these types of conferences because you get to meet members from other wards and branches.
James 3:5 says, "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!" Our words have a lot of power, so we need to watch how we speak.
