Week 56
First full week in Monahans is all done now! It's a pretty cool area, with the only downside being that Google Maps is really broken out here.
MONDAY we went down to Fort Stockton for P-day and hung out with the zone for a good while. We played some spikeball and had a game of Betrayal that went way longer than it needed to, but it was all plenty fun. That evening, we did a family home evening with a Spanish family that we're teaching, and it was great for me because I just had to sit there until they needed me to look up an answer to a random question they had.
TUESDAY we went on a blitz of the area with the zone leaders. What that means is that they came to our area for the day, and we split up into two companionships to do double the work. I went with Elder Lee, who is from Queen Creek, Arizona. It was really fun being able to spend the day with another Elder living with us because it's been a little while since I've lived with someone other than my companions.
WEDNESDAY we were able to have lunch with the first counselor in the mission presidency because he lives in our branch! It was really cool getting to know him and having him show us some of the really cool stuff in his house. Another thing that is cool is that he was the counselor in the other mission as well.
THURSDAY we were up bright and early at 5 in the morning because we had been asked to help teach a seminary lesson on the plan of salvation at 6. It was fun being able to teach the youth in the branch about the plan of salvation. Later, we also taught our Spanish class, where I got to help someone learn the alphabet.
FRIDAY our district council was focused on wanting to make sure that we were using our time effectively. We only get to serve the Lord as full-time missionaries for this short part of our lives, and we need to make the most of it.
SATURDAY nothing too interesting happened, but we did drive by a lot of really funny churches.
SUNDAY was the most eventful day this week. The members that we had dinner with make these really cool wooden ties, and Elder Watson decided to buy one. After dinner, we needed to grab something from the house as well as drop off the new tie, but the real issue was that when we left, we accidentally locked our keys inside the house. This took us about 15 minutes to figure out how to get back in, which we did by finding out that the window our AC unit is in was unlocked. Then, Elder Watson squeezed his top half in to unlock the door while I held the AC unit up as he laid on top of it.
A very fun week here, and I'm sure stuff like this will keep happening. The Words of Mormon, verse 7 says:
"7 And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will."
We don't always know why the Lord will give us a specific prompting, but our obedience in acting on those promptings will bless our lives and the lives of those around us in ways only the Lord can see.
