Week 39

This week felt like it went by really quickly for me. Probably because we had to spend almost half of it stuck inside because Elder Shawcroft got some kind of stomach bug, which was no fun.

MONDAY was the first zone preparation day since basketball was banned, so I was pretty interested to see what everyone was going to do. Unsurprisingly, the stuff we spent the most time doing was volleyball and pickleball.

TUESDAY we did a lot more service than I would have liked to, but we gotta serve as the Savior did somehow. After we got done with all our planning for the week, we went and helped stack wood for a member of our congregation for a bit. We were able to get some tracting done that day, but then some woman who speaks very little English had us come over and help set up lights around her porch for almost 2 hours.

WEDNESDAY we had exchanges with our district leader, and I went out to EspaƱola for the day. It's always interesting going out to EspaƱola because you can either be in the middle of town finding people or you can be out in the boonies. This day we spent most of the time in the boonies where we spent an hour and a half tracting a single neighbor with only five people actually talking to us. At dinner, there were a couple of teenagers who were guessing all the Elders' names, and it was funny because when they got to me, they couldn't figure it out for 20 minutes.

THURSDAY was pretty normal with us just doing a bunch of tracting, but we were able to have a really good lesson with one of our friends who has come to church a couple of times and just explained some of our beliefs to them.

FRIDAY was when things really started to go wrong with Elder Shawcroft's stomach. We decided to try and go to district council because he said that he was good enough, but on the way and after, he was having some issues, so we decided that once we got home from district council, we'd just do some phone work for the day.

SATURDAY was more of the same from the day before, so we just stayed in and did more phone work. We had also been asked to give talks in the branch we cover, so we took some time to work on that because he thought he'd be good enough to get back to work the next day.

SUNDAY Elder Shawcroft was feeling good enough for church, so we were able to go out to the branch so we could give our talks. I gave a talk about how the Book of Mormon centers us on Jesus Christ. They didn't give us any kind of topic to speak on, so I just used a talk that I never got to give in my last ward.

My spiritual thought for this week comes from my talk. In 4th Nephi 1:15-18, it talks about the effects and that came from this powerful conversion to Christ, saying, “15 And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people. 16 And there were no envyings, nor strifes, nor tumults, nor whoredoms, nor lyings, nor murders, nor any manner of lasciviousness; and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God. 17 There were no robbers, nor murderers, neither were there Lamanites, nor any manner of -ites; but they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God. 18 And how blessed were they! For the Lord did bless them in all their doings; yea, even they were blessed and prospered until a hundred and ten years had passed away; and the first generation from Christ had passed away, and there was no contention in all the land.” We might not be able to have an entire world like that in our lifetimes, but we can make our community and homes more like it one step at a time.
