Week 37

This week had quite a few interesting things happen for a couple of different reasons, with the biggest reason being that we had transfers!

Monday, we had the last zone p-day of the transfer, and it was a pretty good one. We had new senior missionaries in the zone who decided to come and hang out, so we ended up playing a good amount of pickleball with them. It was really fun because they were apparently a coach back home and were really good at pickleball. At the end of the day, during the mission's family home evening call, I got to hear my last companion, Elder Stanger, give his departing testimony before he goes home. We also got a slightly menacing announcement from President Edwards that a lot of people were going to be moved this transfer.

Tuesday, we headed up from Taos to a little middle-of-nowhere town called Questa to help a member who is moving back for the summer drain their well house that flooded. That took about 2 hours, and then we just spent the rest of the day in Questa doing missionary work.

Wednesday was my birthday, so I am in the last of my teen years! In the morning, we started off with a mission-wide Facebook devotional where we went over the basics of using Facebook for missionary work. The rest of the day was mostly just a lot of tracting and talking about what we thought would happen with transfers. The news about transfers is that Elder Shawcroft and I are staying together for another transfer.

Thursday wasn't anything too interesting besides a lot of tracting in different parts of our area and housing inspections from the new senior missionaries.

Friday, we took a bit of time after District council to let everyone sign transfer journals, get a zone picture, and say goodbye to everyone who was being transferred.

Saturday, the weather is starting to warm up a bit more, so the temperatures are around 70 now. But because our apartment doesn't have any AC, we had to set up some AC units around the house to keep it a bit cooler when we're at home. Tracting has been nice though because I don't need to wear a jacket or sweater anymore.

Sunday, we had fast and testimony meeting where we got to hear a lot of really amazing testimonies on general conference and about how much the ward cares about each other. After church, we had a potluck with the entire ward to end everyone's fast and to just socialize for a bit, which was pretty nice.

It's been a pretty great week with a decent amount of news that I didn't feel like talking about here, but it's all for the purpose of helping the Lord's work go forward to all. During the Sunday morning session of general conference, the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Patrick Kearon, gave a talk about the Atonement of Jesus Christ with an emphasis on how His Atonement removes roadblocks that would stop us from returning to our Heavenly Father. He said, "Several months ago, when my wife and I were visiting another country for various Church assignments, I woke up early one morning and looked blearily outside our hotel window. Down below on the busy street, I saw that a roadblock had been set up with a policeman stationed nearby to turn cars around as they reached the barrier...From the window above, I watched as the policeman seemed to take satisfaction in his power to block the flow of traffic and turn people away...My friends, my fellow disciples on the road of mortal life, our Father’s beautiful plan, even His 'fabulous' plan, is designed to bring you home, not to keep you out. No one has built a roadblock and stationed someone there to turn you around and send you away. In fact, it is the exact opposite. God is in relentless pursuit of you. He 'wants all of His children to choose to return to Him,' and He employs every possible measure to bring you back." No matter the number of times or the size of our sins and mistakes, the Savior of all of humanity has made an infinite Atonement for each and every one of us. The Father and The Son want to bring us home and give us all they can, which is everything. John 3:17 says, "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
