Week 33
This week involved a lot of driving because we had several zone and mission events in Santa Fe. At least it gave us plenty of time to listen to general conference talks and music.
Monday, we headed down to Santa Fe for the first zone P-day of the transfer. The drive was about an hour and a half, so I took the time to talk with family, write my weekly email, and get to know Elder Shawcroft a bit more. We got to hang out and play some basketball and volleyball with the zone, which was pretty fun because I'm actually getting a bit better at them. We left early because we had to make the drive back up to Taos, but I was able to use more of the drive time to talk with my dad about some doctrinal questions he had thought of.
Tuesday, we got a lot of media referrals out of the blue, which was surprising to me because of how many we were getting. Now, we just have to wait and see if they are actually interested. I also got to give a blessing to the bishop of the Taos ward's wife because they had been having a lot of struggles recently and just needed some comfort. I was really glad I was able to give the blessing because the spirit was so strong, and I could just feel the Savior's love for her.
Wednesday was mostly just a bunch of tracting, but we did get our exercise for the day in. A member in the ward is getting their house cleaned up a bit and had us come over to help them with digging an irrigation ditch. It was hard work, but it was fun seeing the progress we made.
Thursday, I went on exchanges with the district leader, so I had to figure out what we would be doing in the area that day. And because it was my area we were in, I got to be the driver while we were on the exchange. It makes it very clear how much the dirt roads suck when you are the one driving on them! We spent most of the day just tracting, which even led to a lesson with a Spanish-speaking family where I just kinda sat there while my district leader, Elder Astill, taught them in Spanish.
Friday, because district council was down in Santa Fe and we were still on exchanges, I got to do the hour and a half drive down there as the driver. The drive wasn't too bad, but I don't really feel like doing it again because of how tired I was after it. The district council was pretty good too, focusing on the importance of using the Book of Mormon when we teach so we can invite the spirit.
Saturday, we had interviews with our mission president. And guess what, they're in Santa Fe again. I'm really getting the layout of the highways around here with all this back and forth we're doing. Once we got back to our area, we had a couple of hours of solid finding we could do before it got dark, so we went tracting. It went really well, with us actually finding this lady who was really excited to see us and even hinted a bit at the idea that she would like to be baptized.
Sunday, after church, we had ward council with the bishop and other members of the ward and had the chance to introduce a ward mission plan for the ward. The ward is mostly a bunch of older people, so they have some health troubles, but they all seemed really excited for the missionary work.
In Ether 4:14, it says, "And it came to pass at the end of four years that the Lord came again unto the brother of Jared, and stood in a cloud and talked with him. And for the space of three hours did the Lord talk with the brother of Jared, and chastened him because he remembered not to call upon the name of the Lord." Sometimes in our lives, there will be times that we get comfortable and forget to do some of the basic steps. We don't say our prayers, read our scriptures, or go to church because sometimes life feels like it's too busy or we feel like we've done enough. But it's never too late to start again and to get back into those good habits. When we start making those actions again, the spirit will make us feel like we are being welcomed back onto the covenant path.
