Week 32
Well, I've got a full week in the new area now, and it's pretty interesting. It's also really cold, which I'm not too happy about. There are mornings when we go out to the car and find our water bottles frozen.
On MONDAY, the new district all went bowling together so we could hang out and get to know each other. Most everyone is still from Utah, but that's pretty normal no matter where you go. After that, we went to one of the nearby chapels and played some board games for the last bit of p-day. Dinner that night was kind of crazy because there were so many people there, and I didn't know any of them yet.
On TUESDAY, we got up early to go and help out with seminary. It was definitely different from what I'd seen before because there were only 6 people there. I feel like the wards I'm serving in just keep getting smaller and smaller, but at least I'll learn all their names quickly. This day also got me used to the finding because we went knocking on doors for 4 hours straight. It's not the most fun doing all that walking, but it did help us find some new people to start teaching.
On WEDNESDAY, we went out to the middle of nowhere to try and find some guy who asked for a miss visit, and it was really confusing because the address we had took us somewhere where there wasn't a house. It wasn't a complete waste though because we were able to visit with someone who's trying to return to the church but goes to the branch we cover. Later that night, we went to the youth activities where I met a couple more of the members and had some fun watching them play human battleship. We ended off the day by doing some Facebook messaging at Baskin-Robbins because we get free ice cream there since it's owned by a member.
On THURSDAY, it was mostly just more tracting with a couple of doorstep lessons, but at the end of the day, we went and visited this really sweet older lady who has all the missionaries she meets sign this old hymn book she has. It was so nice seeing how much the members here care about the members, and it was funny because I saw my last companion, Elder Stanger, in the hymn book.
On FRIDAY, we went down to EspaƱola for District council. The hour drive is pretty convenient because it lets me have time to do the prework and actually remember it. It was really good because we focused a lot on teaching the parts of the gospel that have been restored in the latter days by modern revelation. After lunch, I went on exchanges with the Zone leaders in EspaƱola, so I got to see the trailer where Elder Stanger got to stay when he was there. It's honestly probably the best apartment in the mission from what I've seen so far, so exchanges are going to be pretty nice. We managed to have a lot of lessons that day and were able to even teach a couple of Spanish-speaking people. And by we, I mean the ZL I was with because I know no Spanish.
On SATURDAY, we woke up to a bunch of snow coming down. It was really pretty, and I love that we've been getting so much snow, but I'm tired of being cold. Once it warmed up a bit more and some of the snow melted, tracting was a bit better.
SUNDAY was fast and testimony meeting because the last week was stake conference. It was actually really awesome because there were people going up and bearing their testimonies from beginning to end without any break.
My spiritual thought for this week I'm actually taking from the Elders quorum lesson on Sunday. They talked about the difference between having a testimony of the gospel and being converted to the gospel. They focused on how having a testimony means having had the spirit confirm the true of a gospel principle to you while being converted means living those truths you know and taking action to act upon those truths. It made me think about where I am along the path and what I can do to be truly converted to the gospel.
