Week 28

This week had a lot of stuff happen, so we didn't end up finding too many new people to teach, but the Lord is preparing people for us always.

MONDAY, we went bowling with the district, and it was really fun. I'm not very good at bowling or the game of pool they let us play while we waited, but I still found a way to enjoy myself. I also got my workout for the day by helping to push a car that died off the road and into the church parking lot. It's kinda scary that a car can just do that, but I'm glad we were there to help. Because of the new combining of the proselytizing and service missions, we got to hear a really amazing departing testimony from a service missionary whose time on the mission was up. It's really cool just seeing how their love of Christ is so strong no matter their circumstances.

TUESDAY, we had zone conference, and it was a really good one. In our mission, we have a saying called, "we sell Coke." I didn't really know what that meant for a while, but it finally got explained this zone conference. Because our mission president was a Coca-Cola executive for something like 23 years, he got to see how the brand of Coke was so strong and how you could even tell something was a Coke commercial without any words. What "we sell Coke" means for our mission is a reminder to always be strengthening our mission brand of finding, teaching, and baptizing through faith that there are people being prepared for us to teach.

WEDNESDAY, I did basically nothing but listen to general conference talks all day because Elder Stanger woke up sick.

THURSDAY, Elder Stanger was feeling better, and we were able to get back to work with weekly planning when the week was almost up already. Once all of that was taken care of, we went tracting with one of the youth who's a senior this year and will be going on his mission soon, so we were able to give him some advice while we were walking.

FRIDAY, we went on exchanges with our district leader after zone council so that they could give a baptismal interview to our friend. The day was super cold out, so I was actually really motivated to do some Facebook finding, and I actually had my first Facebook lesson, which was super cool!

SATURDAY, I got up that morning and was working out when I just barely looked out the window and didn't see popcorn popping, but a ton of snow coming down. I would have never expected to be getting more snow in New Mexico than I would get back home, but it happened. Driving in it felt kinda dicey, but Elder Stanger is used to it since he's from Idaho.

SUNDAY, we got to hear a really good departing testimony from a newly set-apart missionary who's going to the Birmingham, Alabama mission in just a couple of days. Seeing others give their departing testimonies and just how strong their testimonies are makes me really excited for what's to come in the gathering of Israel. Once we got done with all our studies and planning for the day, we visited some families in the ward and got to walking. But it definitely seemed like no one was outside because of the Super Bowl. I've learned more about football and the Super Bowl on the mission than I ever did back home, funny enough.

I was really hoping that the 49ers would win, but at the time of me writing this, I've been told by one of our members that it was the Chiefs. To cheer anyone else that was hoping for the 9ers up, here's my spiritual thought. In the October 2017 general conference talk called, "The living bread which came down from heaven," Elder D. Todd Christofferson says, "If we yearn to dwell in Christ and have Him dwell in us, then holiness is what we seek, in both body and spirit. We seek it in the temple, whereon is inscribed 'Holiness to the Lord.' We seek it in our marriages, families, and homes. We seek it each week as we delight in the Lord’s holy day. We seek it even in the details of daily living: our speech, our dress, our thoughts. As President Thomas S. Monson has stated, 'We are the product of all we read, all we view, all we hear, and all we think.' We seek holiness as we take up our cross daily." Seeking to be closer with God and in turn seeking to be holier is not an immediate action, but comes from taking steps each day to let our love for Him affect our actions and choices. I promise that as you take the time to let your love of God and His Son Jesus Christ show in your actions and choices you make in private and in public, you will be able to draw closer to Him and so will your loved ones as they see your example.
