Week 25

Into my fifth transfer, and the trend has been broken! I'm staying in my area, and I'm staying with Elder Stanger! But with the excitement of all the hellos in the new transfer comes a lot of goodbyes.

MONDAY was the first taste of those goodbyes for some in the zone. One of our zone leaders, Elder Yates, was heading home Thursday, so many missionaries were bringing them their transfer journals to sign. It's sad to see him go, but I feel like I've learned a lot from him in the time that we have served together.

TUESDAY we got back to work in full force, with us having a couple of lessons and some finding time after our weekly planning. It was a pretty normal day, with the only really standout thing being us dropping off a couple of copies of the Book of Mormon with a member who needed them for her class on Sunday.

WEDNESDAY we had a mission-wide devotional on how we can better use Facebook in our finding and teaching. The rest of the day was a lot of running from lesson to lesson because they kept going long. It was pretty great to see that there are so many people who want to grow closer to Christ. Finally, at the end of the day, when we were done running around, we got excited transfer news that I'm staying. I'm so excited I don't have to pack or explain the area for once.

THURSDAY it was time to say goodbye to Elder Yates. It's the first time I've had someone I've lived with go home, so it's kinda sad, but I'll be in that same spot one of these days. After everyone said their goodbyes, he left for the mission home, and we got back to work. Probably one of my high points for this week has been that we have been working with an inactive member who has been wanting to come back, and his sincere attitude just shows me that it's something he truly wants.

FRIDAY we said goodbye to another elder who was going home for health reasons. It's sad to see him go, but I know that the Lord has a plan for him no matter where he is, as long as he is staying faithful. After the last district council of the transfer, everyone who was leaving the zone handed around their transfer journals and said their own goodbyes until zone conference. But to balance out all the good feelings from the goodbyes, tracting that day was rough. We were out for an hour finishing up a neighborhood, and every single house was someone saying they weren't interested or that we were wrong. It was pretty annoying, but we did manage to find one person at the very last house that said we could come back, so I'd say it was worth it.

SATURDAY we went to the transfer site because our zone leader was going with the missionary whose companion went home and would need a ride back to the apartment with the other new zone leader. I guess I'll never escape the transfer site, but it lets me see some of the missionaries I don't normally get to see, so it balances out. Other than that, it was a pretty normal day since we didn't change anything.

SUNDAY we had stake conference, so church was a bit shorter this week. All the talks we heard were pretty good, with most of them being focused on how the Savior knows just how to heal each one of us. We were also able to have a pretty good number of lessons that day, which was nice.

My thought for this week came from 1 Nephi 9:5 which says, "Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me to make these plates for a wise purpose in him, which purpose I know not." Sometimes in life, we're going to be asked to do something we might not fully understand or want to do, but when we allow the Lord to work in our lives by following his commandments, we can be blessed.
