Week 47
This was my first full week down south and it sure has been an interesting one. There have been days in the hundreds and days in the seventies, a lot of Spanish speakers who we've had to try and share the gospel with, and even a missionary going home so I'm now in a trio.
MONDAY: Pickleball came back! A lot of the missionaries and even the senior missionaries go play pickleball at the public courts nearby, so Elder Gurney and I went and played for a good bit. I'm not the best at it, but it's still really fun. Then later that day, we had a really good dinner with the senior missionaries who are assigned to the Chamizal stake.
TUESDAY: We got the news that Elder Gurney and I will officially be in a trio due to one of the other elders we ward share with going home early for medical reasons. Thankfully, I know his companion from a lot of my other zones I've been in, and we get along pretty well.
WEDNESDAY: Elder Gurney woke up with some pretty bad food poisoning, so I was stuck inside listening to General Conference for most of the day. But thankfully, we didn't need to cancel any of our lessons that day because the elder we are going to be in a trio with, Elder Krebs, came over and left his companion with mine, and we went out together to those lessons.
THURSDAY: It was officially my week mark in El Paso, and it was marked by sending an elder home and becoming a trio. It's sad to see someone go home early, but the Lord will have a plan.
FRIDAY: We had a pass-off lesson with the Spanish-speaking elders we live with that went really well. The spirit was really strong while they were teaching them (even if I didn't understand any of it), and the person they were teaching even asked for a blessing of healing.
SATURDAY: We had a lesson with an unbaptized youth that the missionaries have been working with for a while. We did a pretty simple object lesson where they had to jump from different principles of the gospel to be able to reach a picture of Jesus, showing that as we live the gospel principles, we are able to return to Him.
SUNDAY: We had ward conference where the stake president and the other members of the stake presidency came and gave talks. I'd say that I really loved it and that I got a lot out of it, but I actually dozed off for a lot of it. I guess that just shows we've been working hard!
This week's spiritual thought comes from Alma 36:26, which says, "For because of the word which he has imparted unto me, behold, many have been born of God, and have tasted as I have tasted, and have seen eye to eye as I have seen; therefore they do know of these things of which I have spoken, as I do know; and the knowledge which I have is of God." When we are united in our faith in God, we are able to have a greater understanding of one another, even in our differences.
