Week 45
This week I got some pretty exciting and unexpected news! But, I'll leave it for a bit later in the email so everyone has to read it all.
MONDAY we had some fun at zone P-day by playing pickleball without a net. We just set up a bunch of chairs in the middle of the court so we could play, and that made it so much funnier because the ball would bounce at really weird angles when it hit a chair. Unfortunately, when we were on our way home, there was a car fire in the canyon that led to Taos, so we were pretty late getting home.
TUESDAY we were out tracting and ended up having a random stray dog go from house to house with us while we were tracting for almost an hour. That happens more often than you'd think, though. We also got assigned to give talks in a couple of weeks.
WEDNESDAY we had a lesson over Zoom with one of our most progressing people where we focused on the baptismal interview questions. It went really well, and they are making really great progress towards being baptized.
THURSDAY we went up to a part of our area called Questa and visited with a member and her husband. It was a really fun time because we had lunch with them and their grand-nephews and then shared a message about the restoration of the gospel with them.
FRIDAY was when I got that news I was talking about earlier. My mission president called Elder Shawcroft and me that morning before our district council and gave me the news that under the approval of a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, I have been reassigned to the Texas, El Paso mission. I was pretty shocked to hear the news, but I'll trust my mission president and I'll trust the Lord. So later this month when the mission splits, I'll be down south in El Paso for the rest of my mission. I spent a bit of time during district council saying goodbyes to all of the missionaries in the zone. After that, Elder Shawcroft and I went on exchanges with one of the assistants to the mission president for the rest of the day and started going around to say goodbye to everyone in Taos.
SATURDAY we did some service for a lady the missionaries taught in the past by helping her cut down a bush in her yard. Then we spent the rest of the day tracting and visiting people so I could say goodbye.
SUNDAY we had some really good speakers talk at church who talked about the Savior's Atonement and how we can rely on Him. Then we spent more time for the rest of the day saying goodbye.
That news was pretty surprising for me, but I guess I'm just one of the lucky few. In the Joseph Smith translation of Psalms 30:5, it says, "For his anger kindleth against the wicked; they repent, and in a moment it is turned away, and they are in his favor, and he giveth them life; therefore, weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." I like relating this to how we all face trials and hard times because of our mistakes and sins sometimes, even to the point where it can feel hopeless. But I know that those times will not last. Because of the Savior and His Atonement, we are able to rely on heavenly power to help us turn away from our sins and feel joy once more.
